We Never Like Talking About the EnD

Evening-length dance theater piece (2006)
Choreographed and directed by Dayna Hanson
with Maggie Brown, Ezra Dickinson, Dayna Hanson, Wade Madsen,
Marissa Niederhauser and Dave Proscia

We Never Like Talking About The End blends dance, live music and reenactments of far-flung texts, including a scene from John Cassavetes’ Opening Night and a spiritualist’s conversation with the soul of a 19th century sailor. The piece is interspersed with video interviews Hanson conducted with individuals who have lived through the near-death experience.

Hanson assembled a three-piece band for We Never Like Talking About The End at On the Boards; the band, Today!, stayed together for six years, recording one album and scoring two more pieces, two short films and Hanson’s feature film, Improvement Club.

We Never Like Talking About The End was created with support from MAP Fund, National Endowment for the Arts, 4Culture, On the Boards and Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.

“‘We Never Like Talking About the End’ is a profoundly spiritual and involving piece of dance-theater.”
