Shooting Improvement Club on the Key Peninsula Highway

Improvement Club, Dayna’s first feature film and a semi-fictionalized adaptation of the making of Gloria’s Cause, is in post-production! The film was shot by Benjamin Kasulke in August and September in Seattle and on the Key Peninsula of Puget Sound. Editor Sean Donavan is hard at work editing the film and cut this trailer.

Rude Mechs rehearsing I've Never Been So Happy at Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles

Between December 2010 and April 2011 Dayna traveled back and forth to Austin, TX four times, choreographing dances for the Rude Mechs’ new cowboy musical, I’ve Never Been So Happy, which was presented during the FuseBox Festival in April. With words by Kirk Lynn and music by Peter Stopchinski, the play premiered at Center Theatre Group’s Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles in October 2011.

Today! plays at Town Hall

Today! will play as part of a 10-hour new music marathon at Town Hall. May Day! May Day! features 25 sets by local ensembles and soloists in a celebration of contemporary American music curated by Paul Taub, Wayne Horvitz, Jarrad Powell and Cristina Valdez. Today’s set will include music, text and choreography from Gloria’s Cause.

Fundraising Goal Surpassed at USA Projects

As well as naming her a 2010 USA Oliver Fellow in Dance, United States Artists invited Dayna to be part of USA Projects, the organization’s exciting new micro-philanthropy project. Through USA Projects, you can discover and support work by outstanding artists across the country and across disciplines.

Through the support of over 70 people, Dayna surpassed her first fundraising goal, raising more than $5,000 to support the script development phase of Improvement Club, the film adaptation of Gloria’s Cause and Dayna’s major work for 2011. USA Oliver Fellowship in Dance!

Dayna has been named a 2010 United States Artists Oliver Fellow in Dance! One of 50 artists across disciplines and across the country to receive this honor, Dayna has also been invited to join USA Projects, a micro-philanthropy project just launched by the United States Artists Foundation. Through USA Projects, Dayna has begun raising funds to begin Improvement Club, her first feature film and an adaptation of Gloria’s Cause.

National Funding for Gloria’s Cause

MAP Fund: Dayna received a 2010 MAP Fund grant to support the creation of Gloria’s Cause. Read the press release to see the full list of MAP Fund recipients.

National Performance Network: With lead presenter partner On the Boards and presenting partner Under The Radar, Gloria’s Cause received a National Performance Network (NPN) Creation Fund grant. The project has also received support from the NPN’s new Forth Fund, which provides both lead presenter and artist with added funds to help fully realize new work while still in the rehearsal phase.
