GLORIA’S CAUSE
May 19th, 2010Inspired by the complex ironies of the American Revolution, Gloria’s Cause is Dayna Hanson’s newest, full-length work. This dance-driven rock musical exhumes the colonies’ forgotten players and offers warped replays of iconic moments like the signing of the Declaration of Independence in a layered, colorful and gritty look at the roots of America’s inequities.
Hanson is joined by co-creators Dave Proscia and Peggy Piacenza along with a multi-disciplinary cast that includes Maggie Brown, Jim Kent, Wade Madsen, Paul Moore, Pol Rosenthal and Jessie Smith. Together they create a kinetic, darkly funny world where incongruous sources clash and morph. Hanson’s idiosyncratic movement style is informed by her current obsessions with living history, ‘70s television and professional sports.
Gloria’s Cause was presented as a work-in-progress at the TBA Festival in Portland, Ore. in September 2010. It will premiere at On the Boards in Seattle December 2-5, 2010.
